Below is a collection of the most frequently asked questions related to skip bin hire. If you have further queries, please contact us.
What type of bin should i hire?
The type of skip bin you require will depend on your type of waste.
- For most home clean ups with mixed waste a general waste bin will be appropriate.
- If you are removing mostly heavy items like concrete or brick then you likely will need a heavy bin.
- If you are doing a garden tidy up then you can use a green waste bin.
- If you have mostly soil or dirt then you will need a soil bin.
Note that heavy and soil bins generally dont come in the larger sizes because they weigh so much when they are filled and trucks would not be able to lift the larger skips with heavy/soil waste in them.
What is not allowed in the skip bin?
Generally speaking most companies do not allow food waste, asbestos, TV’s, computer monitors, fridges, paints, solvents, and liquids. Mattresses and tyres generally are not allowed also, however you can contact the skip bin supplier to determine whether you can include these items (possibly at extra cost).
Can I fill the bin above the rails?
No. It is unsafe for skip bin companies to transport skip bins that are overfilled. Overfilled bins can be dangerous as items can fall from the truck whilst in transit creating a hazard for other motorists.
Can the skip bin be placed on the footpath / road / easement / nature strip?
In most cases it is not legal to place the bins on public land. Your local council may allow you to place the bin on public land if you apply for and receive a permit. You should enquire about the permit prior to booking your bin if you intend to have it placed on public land.
Can i put asbestos in the skip bin?
No, asbestos is not allowed. Asbestos can be a highly dangerous material and large fines are likely for anyone who is found to illegally dispose of asbestos material.
